What We Do
As 501 c(3) Community Economic Development organization, we will Retain and add new jobs, investment and economic opportunity through dynamic partnerships and collaborations with existing companies and businesses, youth sports programs, hospitals/health centers, non-for-profit organizations, and government.

Our Approach
For over 15 years, the Southeast Side of Chicago has been absent an economic development organization. In this time, the economic and business landscape has continued to change at an ever-rapid pace. A fresh and transformative approach is needed. Two main pillars, Leadership Development and Capital Improvements through partnerships is how LED approaches its mission.

About the Organization
The Lake Effect name incorporates the historic and geographic aspects of the Southeast Side. It is the only part of Chicago that includes Lake Calumet, Wolf Lake, Lake George, Hyde Lake, and Lake Michigan. The communities that make up the Southeast Side include South Chicago, South Deering, the East Side, and Hegewisch.
The founding Board of Directors of the organization are not new to economic development and are lifelong local residents. Jorge Perez, President, who has over 25 years of experience in the public arena, economic development, aviation, government, industrial and retail development, and has led two business associations with the last being the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association. Vice President is Froilan Nunez, an accountant by trade has over 20 years of experience in not-for-profit management, economic development, workforce training of individuals and businesses. In addition, Nunez has extensive knowledge of the growing solar industry and the renewable energy marketplace in Illinois. Rodney Lopez is a retired Chicago Fire Fighter having dedicated over 25 years to the department. Also, he has a wonderful history of working in youth sports development and currently coaches for Waubonsee Community College Baseball.
